Three Ways to Generate Your Draft Order
Random (Equal Odds)
Every team has the same chance at every draft position. Pure randomization — fair for new leagues or leagues without standings.
Weighted (NBA-Style or Linear)
Teams with worse records get more lottery balls. NBA-Style uses the real NBA draft lottery odds curve. Linear scales proportionally.
Custom Weights
Set exact lottery ball counts per team for full control over the odds. Perfect for leagues with unique rules or tiebreaker systems.
Why Use a Draft Order Generator?
Drawing names from a hat or using a spreadsheet formula doesn't build excitement for draft night. A draft order generator creates a lottery-style experience with real odds, sealed results, and a shared reveal that gets your whole league involved.
Every draft order is generated using cryptographic randomness — the same standard used in real-world lotteries. The results are sealed on our server the instant you create the lottery. Nobody — not even the commissioner — can see or change the order until the scheduled reveal date.
After the reveal, a complete snake draft board shows every pick across as many rounds as you want. Share the link with your league and everyone can see where they pick in every round.

Draft Order Generator vs. Other Methods
Most commissioners still use one of three methods to set their draft order: drawing names from a hat, a spreadsheet formula, or random.org. Each has problems that a purpose-built draft order generator solves.
Hat draws require everyone to be in the same room, offer no proof of fairness, and don't support weighted odds. Spreadsheet formulas (RAND or RANDBETWEEN in Google Sheets) give you a random order but no reveal experience, no sealed results, and no way to share a link with your league. Random.org is a generic randomizer — it can shuffle a list, but it doesn't understand fantasy draft concepts like weighted lotteries, snake draft boards, or scheduled reveals.
A dedicated draft order generator gives you weighted randomization, server-sealed results that nobody can tamper with, a shareable reveal link, and a complete snake draft board — all in one tool built specifically for fantasy leagues.
Which Weighting Mode Should You Choose?
Equal Odds — Best for New or Casual Leagues
Every team has the same probability at every draft position. If your league doesn't have standings from a prior season, or if fairness means "equal chance for everyone," this is the right choice. It's also the simplest option — no configuration needed beyond team names.
NBA-Style — Best for Competitive Leagues
Modeled after the real NBA Draft Lottery. The three worst teams share the best odds (roughly 14% each at the #1 pick in a 14-team league), then probabilities drop steeply. This is the most popular mode for competitive fantasy leagues because it rewards bad teams without guaranteeing them a top pick. Any team can still win the lottery — just like the real NBA.
Linear — Best for Simple Weighted Lotteries
The worst team gets N lottery balls, the second-worst gets N-1, and so on down to 1 ball for the best team. The odds scale proportionally — no flat-top grouping like NBA-Style. Good for leagues that want weighted odds without the complexity of the NBA system.
Custom — Best for Leagues with Unique Rules
Set the exact number of lottery balls per team. If your league has a constitution that specifies exact odds, tiebreaker rules, or consolation bracket bonuses, Custom mode lets you match those rules precisely. You control every team's probability down to the decimal.
How to Generate Your Draft Order in 3 Steps
Step 1: Enter your teams. Type in your team or manager names. Use the quick-select buttons for common league sizes (8, 10, 12, or 14 teams) or set any number from 2 to 30.
Step 2: Choose your weighting mode. Pick Equal Odds for a pure random draft order, or select NBA-Style, Linear, or Custom to give worse teams better odds. A live odds matrix shows every team's exact probability at every draft position before you lock it in.
Step 3: Schedule the reveal and share the link. Set a reveal date — the results are sealed immediately and nobody can see or change them until that date. Copy the link and drop it in your group chat. On reveal day, everyone flips picks together, last to first, with confetti and reactions.
After the reveal, a full snake draft board shows every pick across as many rounds as your league needs. Download a results card to share on social media, or save the draft to your dashboard for reference on draft night.
Draft Order Generator FAQ
How do I generate a random draft order?
Enter your team names, choose Equal Odds for pure random, and click Generate. The order is created instantly and sealed until your reveal date.
What is the difference between random and weighted draft order?
Random gives every team equal odds. Weighted gives worse teams more lottery balls for better chances at the top pick — like the NBA and NHL draft lotteries.
Can I generate a draft order for any sport?
Yes. Works for fantasy football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and any other sport. Just enter team names and choose a weighting mode.
Does the draft order include a snake draft board?
Yes. After the reveal, a full snake draft board shows pick assignments across multiple rounds with alternating order.
Is the draft order truly random?
Yes. The randomization uses cryptographic-grade random number generation on our server. The results are sealed the instant you create the lottery — no one can see or alter them, including the commissioner.
Can the commissioner rig the draft order?
No. The draft order is generated and locked server-side at creation time. It cannot be viewed or modified by anyone until the reveal date passes. Full odds are shown transparently before generation.
How is this different from random.org?
Random.org is a generic number randomizer. Our draft order generator is built specifically for fantasy leagues — it understands weighted lotteries, snake draft boards, scheduled reveals, and shareable links. It's a complete draft night experience, not just a shuffled list.
Do my league members need to create accounts?
No. Only the commissioner needs to sign in to create the lottery. League members can view the reveal, flip cards, and see the snake draft board with just the shared link — no sign-up required.
